Due to an issue with dependency injection in the Information Systems Extension for the projectdoc Toolbox the Autoconverter for URLs failed to do its job. This issue is fixed with version 3.0.1 of the Information Systems Extension.

Also note that the extension checks the Confluence Whitelist for accessing remote resources. This had not been mentioned in the documentation. In case the Whitelist is used, URLs to remote systems need to be added to that list for the Autoconverter to run. The Autoconverter needs to fetch the title of the page the link refers to to render this information as the label. Otherwise there is not much benefit to autoconvert the URL to a macro in case for accessing public resources on the internet - like articles on Wikipedia.

On Autoconvert Information System URIs the configuration to access articles on Wikipedia is shown.

Since the Confluence Whitelist restricts access to remote servers. URLs that are not listed in the Whitelist cannot be accessed from the Autoconvert code. Therefore all URLs configured for the projectdoc Autoconvert need also be added to the Whitelist.

Configuring the Whitelist, as part of the Confluence documentation by Atlassian, shows how to allow access to remote servers.

For the projectdoc Autoconvert only access to the remote system is required. The remote system does not access the Confluence server for this feature.

When pasting an URL to a Wikipedia article, the autoconverter will create a macro for the link.

The rendered macro will show the title of the article as its label instead of the URL.

What is projectdoc?

The projectdoc Toolbox is a collection of a large number of tools to help teams to create modular, agile documentation collaboratively and with fun. The toolbox is an add-on for Confluence and is available on the Atlassian Marketplace.

The tools in the projectdoc Toolbox consist basically of macros, doctypes, and a handful of conventions. The number of these tools is overwhelming, especially for new users.

One Tip at a Time

Learning a new tool is not easy because users need to get their tasks done. Learning a new tool takes time, time that is not available.

Learning by tips - one tip at a time

Users learn some interesting aspects of projectdoc by reading one tip at a time. The tips show aspects of projectdoc and link to resources to learn more about a specific top - just in case.
