In every book about communication the direct conversation of people is deemed as the best option to transmit information. Also the agile manifesto states this in one of its principles:

The most efficient and effective method of conveying information to and within a development team is face-to-face conversation.

Direct communication has the potential to be the most effective way to exchange information.

Despite the effectiveness of transmitting information is not in doubt, direct communication has no value for preserving information that has long time value. It also does not hint on how direct communication has to be conducted to be efficient. Think of seemingly endless meetings where everything has been said, but not yet by everyone.
